DESCRIPTION:The event will explore the impact of bias and hate speech in extended reality (XR) platforms and discuss ways of prevention. \nThis presentation will explore the impact of bias and hate speech on social harmony in extended reality (XR) platforms. Drawing on research from psychology\, ethics and linguistics we will discuss the language and practices that contribute to bias and hate speech and how they affect individuals and communities. Having examined the ways in which bias and hate speech are propagated in XR spaces\, we will then begin to explore a number of ways in which they could be prevented or mitigated. \nThe event will be held in english. \nSpeaker:\nDanielle Shanley \nDanielle Shanley is a post-doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. She is currently exploring the ethical implications of immersive environments (which combine advanced technologies such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence). Dani’s expertise is mainly within science and technology studies (STS) and the philosophy of technology\, with a particular focus on reflexive\, participatory design methodologies (or\, responsible innovation)\, such as social labs and value sensitive design (VSD). \nEsen Küçüktütüncü \nEsen Küçüktütüncü is a documentary filmmaker\, visual artist\, and researcher in VR (Virtual Reality) and Clinical Psychology. She completed her Master’s degree in Cognitive Systems and Interactive Media at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and is currently a PhD Candidate at Universitat Barcelona within the Event Lab under the supervision of Mel Slater. Her PhD research focuses on the development of shared virtual environments and virtual agents\, tackling conflict resolution and social harmony.

DESCRIPTION:An immersive concert experience situated between analogue and virtual space makes up the Mahler Chamber Orchestra’s concert project “Between Realities” on Easter Monday. Together with violinist Pekka Kuusisto and sound specialist Henrik Oppermann/Schallgeber\, the orchestra explores space and sound at the interface of different levels of reality\, raising questions concerning the “realism” of performance as well as dreams\, imagination and fantasy. A particular focus lies on Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s suite from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”\, which the Mahler Chamber Orchestra performs not only live but also for the first time in a virtual reality performance. \nOver the course of a long concert night\, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra presents works by composers including Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy\, Charles Ives and Nico Muhly. The analogue concerts are complemented by the VR installations “Future Presence I\, II & III”\, which invite audiences to draw closer to the music of Mozart\, Ives and Mendelssohn Bartholdy than ever before: with the aid of VR glasses and headsets\, audience members can freely move around (or through/over/under) the ensemble\, thereby expanding and rediscovering the process of listening.

Inwieweit können diese Technologien perspektivisch auch für das weite Feld der erweiterten Realität  und immersiven Medien von technologischer und ideeller Bedeutung sein? \nDr. Markus Krutzik gibt einen Einblick in den aktuellen Stand der Forschung mit dem Schwerpunkt der “Integrierten Quantensensorik“. \nZu Gast bei VRBB Mitglied botspot werden ausgehend von diesem Einblick Fragestellungen zu potenziellen Schnittstellen von Quantensensorik und XR-Technologien formuliert. VR\, AR und MR sollen in diesem Zusammenhang nicht nur aus technologischer Perspektive angedacht werden\, sondern auch als produktives Lern- und Vermittlungswerkzeug. Nur durch einen reflektierten sowie disziplinen- und industrieübergreifenden Dialog kann ein gesamtgesellschaftlicher Ausblick auf das Zukunftspotential der Quantentechnologien angeregt werden. \nDr. Markus Krutzik: Die Quantentechnologie steht im Zentrum der Arbeit von Markus Krutzik. Der promovierte Physiker ist seit vielen Jahren in der Forschung im In- sowie Ausland aktiv und interessiert sich insbesondere für das wirtschaftliche und gesellschaftliche Potenzial dieser Zukunftstechnologie. Derzeit leitet er die gemeinsam vom Ferdinand-Braun-Institut\, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik und von der Humboldt-Universität Berlin betriebene Arbeitsgruppe „Integrierte Quantensensoren“. Geforscht wird hier u. a. an atombasierten Technologien für die hochgenaue Sensorik\, an optischen Uhren für die Navigation und an Komponenten für die Speicherung von Quanteninformation. \nbotspot AG (VRBB Mitglied): Seit 2013 entwickelt botspot  innovativste photogrammetrische 3D-Scanning-Lösungen “Made in Germany”. DESCRIPTION:Eine Anleitung für den industriellen Einsatz mit Sascha Quast\, Research Associate am Fraunhofer IPK \nVirtual Reality (VR) wird in der Industrie von vielen Unternehmen mit Interesse verfolgt und in Demonstratoren erprobt. Ein Hindernis auf dem Weg zur Industrialisierung ist die aufwändige Installation für unerfahrene Anwender*innen\, die eine nahtlose Nutzung behindert und damit den späteren Mehrwert der Anwendung in den Hintergrund rückt. \nViele Informationen\, aus denen eine VR-Umgebung automatisiert generiert werden kann\, sind bereits vorhanden. Beispielsweise hat eine virtuelle Inbetriebnahmeumgebung das Potenzial\, eine virtuell erlebbare Maschine bereitzustellen\, um z. B. das Anlagenpersonal zu schulen\, bevor die reale Anlage existiert. Auch ohne VR-Expertise kann so von Virtual Reality profitiert werden\, um schneller\, kostengünstiger und effizienter zu werden. \nDas Webinar gibt Antworten auf folgende Fragen: \n1. Welche Lösung haben wir entwickelt?\nDas Fraunhofer IPK hat einen Setup-Guide entwickelt\, der unerfahrene VR-Benutzer dabei unterstützt\, aus einer virtuellen Inbetriebnahme-Szene eine VR-Umgebung zu erzeugen. Dabei wird ein Großteil automatisiert und eine Anleitung führt durch die manuellen Schritte. \n2. Was sind die Vorteile?\nDurch den einfachen Aufbau können auch Nicht-VR-Experten ohne Schulung eine VR-Umgebung erstellen und nutzen. Die reduzierte Einarbeitungszeit erhöht somit die Effizienz des VR-Einsatzes. So können z. B. Schulungen bereits vor dem Bau der Anlage stattfinden und benötigen nur einen Bruchteil der Zeit herkömmlicher Schulungsvorbereitungen. \n3. Gibt es Erweiterungsmöglichkeiten?\nDer Software Guide kann für weitere VR- oder AR-Anwendungen erweitert werden. Neben der Anleitung zur Bedienung kann auch die Konfiguration\, sowie die Auswahl der Hardware integriert werden.

Erfahre\, was mit XR bereits in der Modewelt umgesetzt wird und hole dir Inspiration für neue Ansätze. \nBeim XR Demo Day soll ausprobiert\, kennengelernt und vernetzt werden. Die Unternehmen und VRBB-Mitglieder i-mmersive\, Kompetek Interaktiv und botspot zeigen ihre Lösungen und diskutieren mit euch Möglichkeiten von VR- / AR- / MR-Anwendungen für eure Bedürfnisse. Kommt mit euren Fragen und Ideen! \nAls Auftakt wird die Designerin Esther Perbandt\, ebenfalls Mitglied des VRBB\, von Ihren Erfahrungen mit XR sprechen und euch Lust auf mehr machen. Dann könnt ihr eintauchen ins Ausprobieren. \nDer XR Demo Day ist unsere erste Antwort auf den großen Anklang des ersten Fashion & XR Meetups im Herbst 2022\, ausgerichtet von der Berliner Wirtschaftsförderung Berlin Partner und dem VRBB.
